Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancers in women. It is cancer of the cervix, which is lower part of the uterus. The most important thing about this type of cancer is that it could be screened for in women. In fact, there is even a vaccine these days, which younger individuals are often offered. The screening that is provided for cervical cancer is called a Pap smear. There is also HPV testing. HPV refers to the human papillomavirus, and that is the virus that is known to be the cause of cervical cancer. At our firm, we often have patients that come to us, who have, for one reason or another, developed cervical cancer, which was not properly screened. And what we're able to do as a law firm is collect those medical records, review all of the laboratory results, and let them know whether or not we think there is a basis for a medical malpractice lawsuit involving cervical cancer.
